Is there any proof showing the existence of Prophet Mohammed (ﷺ). For example I have heard of an exhibition displaying such things as Prophet Yahya’s head and arm, and Prophet Yusuf’s turban. Can we be sure that such things are true?
This is something we cannot depend on though in many parts of the Muslim world you will find artifacts which are attributed back to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his companions. Similarly, it is well established in Catholic traditions that one may find in many Cathedrals bones of the saints and earlier prophets; and these bones are capable of performing miracles even till now.
We, in our Muslim world, have similar examples of ridiculousness, one finds in Tabaqti Museum in Turkey, the display of the tooth which Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) lost, which was knocked out in the battle of Uhud. Now this tooth can also be found in Pakistan, Egypt, Africa, Tunisia or some place. We know that it was only one tooth that he lost. So, that raises a big question mark on these other teeth. The point is that we cannot accept these things as authentic unless there is an authentic chain of narrators back to that particular object, that is, the name of the companion that picked up the tooth from the battle field of Uhud, who he gave it to, and everybody right down to the point who put it in the Museum. If we don’t have that, then we reject it. This is something fabricated.
In any case this has become a fitna among the Muslims. The hair from Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) supposedly is found in many places. Once or twice a year they bring out and display the hair and people come and touch it. Some also claim that they still grow and they are cut and passed around. This is the part and parcel of the deviation of Muslims who have strayed away from the message of Islam and have become engrossed in magical, miraculous objects or incidents which have taken on their lives in much more meaning than understanding what Allah instructed them in the Qur’an, and understanding what the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) has conveyed to us in his authentic narrations and traditions. Instead of living their lives according to this, they live lives which are culturally focused and get their spiritual inspirations from these fabricated objects which are attributed back to the prophets. It’s unfortunate how people today have lost the sense of reality and they have been caught up in these kinds of things, attaching so much religious significance to these things. We need to be clear and stick to Qur’an and Sunnah, and we need to avoid all these strange ideas, as Allah says in the Qur’an,
“And do not follow that which you have no knowledge about. Indeed the hearing, sight and mind, each will be questioned by Allah” [1]
