If God is so benevolent, He is a good God, why would He create people and put them in paradise and put other ones in hell?
Well, the point is: He did not make people for hell. He did not create human beings in order to put them in hell. He created human beings for paradise. That is why where did Adam and Eve start? Started in paradise. That is the truth in and of itself. That is where they are supposed to live.
But He did not create a set of beings who would just automatically go to paradise, to live a life of paradise because He has already created a being like that. Who were they? The angels. He has already created beings: angels, who would live the lives of paradise. They were already created for paradise, and have no choice in being in that paradisiacal state. He did not choose to create another set; He already has the people of paradise, the angels. Instead He chose to create another set of beings who would have the choice of going to paradise or not. They could choose paradise. He created the jinn, and He created humankind, with the choice of going to paradise or going to hell.
Of course He has to create hell because without hell, there was no choice. And you only create the paradise and you say you have the choice of going to paradise or not. There is only paradise. What kind of choice is that? There is no choice. So hell was the necessary creation which resulted from Allah giving us a choice. So for those people who do not want that paradise for which all human beings were created, there is hell. So God is kind and just. He gave us the opportunity. He gave us the means and everything is in place for us to go to paradise. But if we choose to go to hell, can we then blame and say that why did you make hell and put me in it? No, we chose it. So God is good. The Prophet (ﷺ) said that, He is good. And everything He does is good. That is our God. So the goal is paradise. It should be our goal.
