What should be the response to those who believe in the need for intercessors to get one’s prayers accepted?
Those who believe in the need for intercessors to get one’s prayers accepted explain the logic behind it by saying that human beings are full of sins and if they want to pray to Allah, they need to approach someone who is pure and close to Allah. If someone wants to meet the Prime Minister, he cannot simply knock on his door. He has to see the local representative who in turn speaks to other representatives, till he reaches the Prime Minister. This is how things work out in this world. However, Allah (سبحانهُ وتعالى) has mentioned in the Qur’an very clearly that He hears all and He knows all and that we do not need intermediaries between us and Him. There are Muslims who believe in saints just as the Catholics do. They give these saints the attributes of Allah. They pray to these saints, making them intermediaries between them and Allah. These are false beliefs which come about as a result of not knowing our Lord. Belief in Allah is not enough if we have not understood who Allah is. If we have not understood who Allah is, then belief linked with righteous deeds is not enough. Belief, along with actions which are implemented in the life is enough to give us success in this world.
