How can we be patient in times of difficulty and adversity?

As believers, we must know that difficulties and adversities are tests and trials from Allah. Sometimes Allah sends difficulties through our way so that we turn to Him. As a matter of fact, to turn to Allah in times of trial and adversity is relatively easy to achieve because we feel helpless and turn to Him for help. However, what is difficult is for us to remember Allah when things are going well. When things are bad, we pray, but when things are good we don’t. Certainly, in times of difficulty it is for us to turn to Allah, but we must not forget to pray when times are good. Whenever we face any difficulty in life, we must remind ourselves what Allah has informed us in the Qur’an:

"For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease."[1]

 This promise of Allah should help us be patient in times of hardship. We should know that whatever calamity strikes us will be eased and not continue forever. After a difficult time, there will be ease. If we think of all the blessings that Allah has put in our lives, the calamity seems very small, but when we forget about our blessings, the calamity seems very great and big.
