What is the difference between cutting short the prayer and making it light?

Making the prayer light (at-takhfeef) refers to reciting short Surahs of the Qur'an and limiting or lessening the number of tasbeehs. This seems to the same issue meant by cutting the prayer short. Unless if the context refers to leaving the prayer before finishing due to some reason.
