Why does jihad have a high place in Islam?

Jihad is a principle which is critical for Muslims to be involved in, to be conscious of and to be striving for.

The Prophet Mohammed (ﷺ) put great emphasis on it, because it is the highest expression of faith for a person to give one’s life for the sake of Allah. This is the highest expression of one’s faith, because what is most dear to us? What do we value the most? Our life. So, to be willing to give that life for Allah is the highest sacrifice. Naturally, Jihad has a very high place in the minds of Muslims. [1]
