While on Umrah,
1. Is it permissible to perform more than one umrah if the stay is for only 3 days? If yes, where would the ihram have to be assumed?
2. While praying in front of Kabah, should one look at it or should he look at the place of his sujood as usual?
Could you please clarify with relevant a hadith?
3. What should be said during tawaf?
4. What should one say when looking at the Kabah?
- Repeating umrah, that is, performing more than one umrah on a single journey to Makah is not from the Sunnah of the Prophet . Also, scholars like Ibn Taymiyah, Ibn Al-Qayyum and Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen have spoken against it.
- When praying in front of the Kabah, the normal rules for prayer apply, that is a person should look at the place of sujood while praying. In Salah, even at the Kabah, one looks at the point of sujood. However, the body as a whole will be facing the Qibla but the eyes will be on the point of sujood and not the Kabah. Ibn Hibban (4/332) and al-Hakim (1/625) narrated that ‘Aa’ishah said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered the Kabah and his gaze did not go beyond the site of his prostration until he came out.” [Classed as Sahih by al-Albani in Sift-e- Salah al-Nabi ]. Also the reports of some of the Salaf that were quoted by Abd al-Razaaq al-Sanaani in al-Musannaf include the following:
i – It was narrated that Abu Qalabah said: “I asked Muslim ibn Yasser where my gaze should fall whilst I am praying?” He said: “If it falls where you prostrate, that is good.”
ii– It was narrated that Ibrahim al-Nakhai used to like for the worshipper not to let his gaze wander beyond the place of prostration.
iii – It was narrated that Ibn Sireen used to like for a man to focus his gaze on the place of prostration.
- It is Sunnah to make dua in tawaf. So a person should think of suitable duas, ask Allah for forgiveness of sins, being saved from the fire of Hell, entry into Paradise, beneficial knowledge, etc.
- There are some narrations which say that you must make dua when you look at the Kabah, but all of them are weak. However, some scholars act according to them because they say that their weakness is not serious. However, you can make dua anytime you are in the Masjid al-Haram, during your nafil Salah, in the period between adhaan and iqamah, at tahajjud, etc.
And Allah knows best.
