What is to be said about people who know the Sunnah of eating and drinking with the right hand but they eat using the right hand and drink using the left hand?

This is one of the innovations of our time. Some people while eating with the right hand do not want to touch the glass with their greasy hand. Therefore, they put their right hand under the glass and drink water with their left hand. Nevertheless, of course drinking with the left hand is haram.

Prophet (ﷺ) said: “No one among you should eat with his left hand, or drink with it, for the Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with it.” [1]

When you are putting your right hand under the glass that does not mean that you are drinking with your right hand, because at that time, if you move your right hand from it then what happens? The glass will still be there. However, if you move your left hand at that time then the glass will fall. Therefore, that means you are drinking with your left hand, and not with your right hand. Putting the right hand under the glass is just a symbolic thing. This is a major haram, which is wide spreading all over the world.

Some people may say, “Okay…this is a little thing. We have Muslims dying in Palestine and you are talking about eating & drinking with the left hand?”

Reality is, if we cannot follow the commandment and rule of the Prophet (ﷺ) in such a simple act, then what can we do for Palestine? Thus, we are fooling ourselves.
