Is it compulsory to make jihaad?

Well, of course the concept of jihad is very vast. The Prophet Mohammed (ﷺ) had said that the greatest martyr is the one who speaks the truth in the presence of the parents. So one who upholds the truth in the presence of a parent and who is then killed forth, is the greatest of the martyrs. He also stated that jihad fundamentally is the jihad of self.

Jihad begins with the struggle against one’s own evil inclination, and from there, within the individual it takes different levels— how he deals with his families, how he deals with his neighbors, community, society and further up— these are all various levels of jihad, the ultimate level being the physical. We may not be in a realistic situation to do the physical jihad, but the other levels we are required to. [1]
