Can you please explain the meaning of the following statement of Ibn Qudaama: ''Among the attributes of Allah, Most High, is that He speaks from the infinite past (qadeem).'' (pg.45) in his book (Radiance of Faith), since we know that Allah Speaks and that action of Speaking is related to certain periods of time, and that Allah's Speech is Eternal but a particular sound may not be eternal.
The meaning of Allah's speech being Qadeem (from the infinite past), is that in the general sense, the attribute of speech with respect to Allah is an attribute that has always been attributed to Him since eternity, it being a sifah dhatiyyah (personal attribute). And so Allah has always been attributed with this attribute of speech, whenever He wishes He speaks and however He wishes, He speaks.
As for the reason why Ibn Qudamah described it as being Qadeem (from the infinite past), it is to refute the Mu'tazillah who said that Allah's speech is created.
