Could you please answer the following questions:
1. Does leaving the compulsory Salaat make a person Kaafir?
2. What about a sinner, who is not only himself committing sins like adultery, alcohol but also entices/encourages others towards it, like many filmstars today? Are they still considered Muslim, though they have no remorse for their sins (rather they boast about them and promote them).
3. The story of a sinner and a devout person, where Allah sends the sinner for having hope and the devout to hell for not having sin --- Doesn’t it contradict our stand about hope with efforts?
In the above example, the sinner was not putting any concerted effort to get what he hoped for?
Didn't it constitute what is termed as 'mere hollow desires' without any real intention, as you explained through the quote of Ibn Qayyim?

It is not mentioned that he was forgiven because of hope. In the explanation of the hadeeth it is said that the sinner may have fulfilled one of the reasons of forgiveness or the sin he had committed was not shirk and Allah pardoned him by His grace and mercy.
