What is the application of the term Allah in relation to us as human beings?
We worship Allah by seeking His help, His guidance, etc., using this name. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), in order to bind us to this name, and keep Allah constantly in our day to day lives, he (ﷺ) made the basmalah[1] a supplication which we are encouraged to say before any act of significance that we have to do. Also we are taught to ass Allahumma or Allah, in our daily acts of worship, whether they be formal or informal, whether we are praising Allah or whether we are calling on Him for a needs. Now, how do we put the name of Allah in our daily lives? Of course, the goal behind it is to be more and more conscious of Allah in this name, and thereby becomes a form of remembrance of Allah, in the appropriate form.[2]
Repeating ‘Allah Allah Allah’ multiple times is a deviant and misguided way. It was not done by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), nor by his companions. And surely if they did not do it, then it must not be the way. Because if we claim that this is a valid way of remembering Allah and Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did not do it, what in fact are we saying? Are we saying that we have found something that he (ﷺ) did not have or that he (ﷺ) knew it and he (ﷺ) hid it from his followers? Whereas Aisha radhiyAllahu anha reported that he (ﷺ) has left us on a clear plain as told in this hadith:
“And I have left you on a clear white plain, whose day is like its night, anyone who deviates from that plain, from that clarity destroys himself.”
