I recently read a post by you regarding forgiveness and if one forgives a person, Allah will raise his ranks in Jannah.

I have been really hurt by someone extremely close to me and I want to forgive and forget about him and move on but I can’t. I feel so hurt and all that pain has started to generate a lot of hate. I don’t want to feel that; in fact I don’t want to feel anything from him no more. I think about it all the time, the first thing in the morning till the last thing at night. I just don’t know what to do now, I am trying to attach my heart to Allah but I find it hard. I guess when a human heart is attached to someone or something else other than Allah, they are bound to get hurt.

Could you please advise me?

You are afflicted with obsession, which is a curse. Allah took that person away to wake you up to your illness. Otherwise it would have destroyed you later on in life. So, fall down on your face in sujood, and thank Allah for removing him from your life through the hurt. Every day, make sujood ash shukr [1]- the prostration for gratitude, and stay in that position and sincerely thank Allah, and it will eventually go away. You don't have to have wudoo, or to face the Ka'bah. It can be done when you first get up and when you go to bed at night, whenever the hurt is strongest.
