What is the logic behind making wudu after eating camel meat?

There is a story that a man in the masjid broke his wudu by passing wind but felt shy to perform wudu. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam knowing his situation said that whoever has eaten camel meat has to perform wudu.

Is this story authentic?

In everything that is commanded by Allah and His Messenger  there is wisdom, sometimes we get it and sometimes we do not and when we do not, it does not mean there is no wisdom.

Regarding the logic behind making wudu after eating camel meat:

Narrated Al-Bara' ibn Azib:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about performing ablution after eating the flesh of the camel. He replied: “Perform ablution, after eating it.” He was asked about performing ablution after eating meat. He replied: “Do not perform ablution after eating it.” He was asked about saying prayer in places where the camels lie down. He replied: “Do not offer prayer in places where the camels lie down. These are the places of Satan.” He was asked about saying prayer in the sheepfolds. He replied: “You may offer prayer in such places; these are the places of blessing.”[1]

It’s that simple; it is Allah who has commanded us to and we listen and obey, not blindly but with full belief that He does not command us to do anything that does not make sense. It is Allah who created the camel and it is He who knows best why He commanded us to make wudu after eating camel meat and not after eating other types of meat.

It was narrated that Jabir bin Samurah said: "The Messenger of Allah  commanded us to perform ablution after eating camel meat but not to perform ablution after eating mutton."[2]

It was narrated that Hazrat Aisha  said: "The Messenger of Allah  said: 'Perform ablution after (eating) that which has been changed by fire.'"[3]

As for the story, it is my first time to hear about it but I think the ruling is not linked to the authenticity or lack thereof of the story.

So whether we know the logic or not, we still follow the commandments of Allah.
