Al Rasheed, though frequently referred to as a name of Allah, is not one because it is not mentioned in the Qur’an or Sunnah. Based on this, can you kindly clarify the following article:

“Where did this name Ar-rasheed come from? It seems to be a result of ijtihad, which we know is insufficient to establish names of Allah. Someone suggested that Surah Hud 11:87 specifically mentioned Ar-rasheed as a name, though this particular ayah is speaking in regards to Shu'ayb and his people at the time, not Allah. However, someone else suggested the following:

"Abaa 'Abdil-'Azeez: Na'am, as-Sa'dee (d.1376) was one of those who considered Ar-Rasheed one of Allaah's Names, along with:

Al-Khattaabee (d.388)

Ibn Mandah (d.395)

Al-Bayhaqee (d. 458)

Ibn Al-'Arabee (al-Maalikee) (d.543)

Al-Qurtubee (d.671)

Ibn Al-Qayyim (d.751)

Ibn Al-Wazeer (d.840)

Siddeeq Hasan Khaan (d.1307)

This does not mean that the name "Rasheed" is established for Allaah. We will look into each of the above gathering of Allaah's Names and attempt to determine, either directly from their speech or, if they did not define their methods themselves, by comparing their listings to the listings found in the dha'eef hadeeth with its three different wordings, what exactly was their method, which narrations of the hadeeth did they refer to, which aayaat were being used as a proof, and how did they conclude from them that Ar-Rasheed is a name of Allaah, in shaa' Allaah..."

Would certain scholars like Al-Qurtubee and Ibn Al-Qayyim conside Al Rasheed as a name of Allah based on a dha’eef hadith?

Yes, what the above article mentions is correct. That is because the scholars of Islam, even those strong in the science of hadeeth, differed regarding how to accept hadeeth narrations. Even the scholars of hadeeth themselves had varying methods and conditions for the acceptance of hadeeth narrations. Thus, don’t be surprised if certain well-known scholars of Ahlu-Sunnah considered certain ahadeeth as being authentic when many others considered them as being weak.

And Allah knows best.
